Klimno

Klimno – the harbour

KLIMNO - a village situated on the eastern coast of the island of Krk. The historical core of the village consists of a complex of two-storey houses made of stone, having an external staircase, terraces with vaultings and eaves, gable roofs with half-round tiles, small window apertures and strong chimneys indicating the existance of hearths in the structures. The outhouses are situated next to this complex of residential buildings. They are constructed in drystone technique, sometimes having vegetable covering, the type of «mošune». In regard to the organization of space, it is assumed that the settlement is dating probably from the 16th c. or earlier.

In the historical core there is a Romanesque one-nave Chapel of St. Kliment with a semi-circular apse, which is mentioned already in the 14th c.
