Dolova

In the village core of the settlement there is a complex of stone houses of a bungalow form, with one room and a small ground-plan surface. The houses possess external vaulted stone staircase with gable roof covered with half-round tiles. Massive stone structures having the same organizational and architectural features are situated in the vicinity to the village core. The hamlet is situated on an open space of the arable land, representing the organization of the rural area connected to the immediate agricultural area.

According to the concept of structures of a smaller ground-plan surface, the settlement represents a unique example of once wide-spread organization of the rural areas on the island of Krk before the 18/19th c. The tradition from the 15th c. has it that there was a hamlet having the same name on the road between Gradac and Omišalj, what is in accordance with today`s location of the structures, so that the dating of this rural unit is assumed to fit into the 15th c. or earlier.

Ethno-zone Dolova is represented by the organization of the space carried out by means of the tradition, interpreted with drystone walls, and it manifests itself mostly as agricultural area, as well as an area of communication between the cultural-historical region of Dobrinj and Vrban. In respect to the forms and names of certain agricultural plots, it is possible for the zone to have a continuity in the forming of space from the 12th c. It is also very likely that the zone has a continuity in the shaping dating from the times of the first Croatian immigrants to the island in the 5th and 6th c.
